Guildford Hotel

Episode: 8
Broadcast: 12 June 2016
Presenter: Caty Price

Caty takes us to the Guildford Hotel that has had a modern makeover, but still holds the old charm.

  • Since the Guildford was licensed in 1886 it’s been a cornerstone of the Swan Valley and a West Australian icon.
  • It was heartbreaking when the 130 years of history went up in flames, and it’s taken almost a decade to restore the beautiful heritage pub.
  • John Ahern is the director at the Guildford Hotel.
  • The renovation kept some of the items that were left over from the fire including some of the original burnt out doors in the beer garden, some of the burnt out timber as bar tops, a sink, and tiles and fireplaces.
  • The beer list includes local favourites from the Swan Valley. There are 18 beers as well as cocktails on tap.
  • The food includes a dirty double burger, a tray of smoky favourites including sticky pork and beer can chicken, kung pao prawn and scorch corn salad.
  • The menu is split into two sections, two-handed dishes and one-handed dishes. There are also three meat smokers in the beer garden.
