Episode: 9
Presenter: Chrissy Morrissy
Air Date: 10th January 2021
Chrissy takes a tour off the coast of Geraldton to learn about crayfish and try her luck at catching a few herself.
- Offshore Charters WA is run by husband-wife duo, Kim and Natalie. Kim has 25 years’ experience in the crayfishing industry and has been doing these tours for 4 years.
- The tour allows people to experience what it’s like on a cray boat and see how crayfish are caught.
- It goes for approximately an hour and a half and you’ll pull about 12 pots while you’re out on the water.
- The crayfish is also known as the ‘Western Rock Lobster’, a term that was originally created for marketing purposes.
- Crayfish larvae are called phyllosoma. They’re about 1.3mm in length and they look like a small translucent spider.
- A mere 1% of 500,000 eggs that the female lays will become fully grown crayfish.
- Every person that comes on the tour can legally take home 8 crayfish, making it great value for money.
