Title: Surfing
Broadcast: August 6th
Presenter: Chrissy Morrissey
Chrissy visits the Cocos Islands and tries out surfing on the pristine beaches with the locals.
- The Cocos Keiling Islands have amazing white sandy beaches, coconut palms, water consistently at around 28 degrees- perfect for a surf!
- It’s one of 9 Australian territories and home to some pretty impressive surf, if you know where to look. You may have to find a local to show you around.
- The winds in the Cocos are nearly always offshore so you can walk straight off the beach to a world class wave- this is WA’s real surfer’s paradise
- Make sure you bring your own board as there is no where to hire them on the Island.
- There are 3 different breaks on the beach; North Park is 400 meters to the south, it’s a huge wave which is only for the big and strong. The Shack is also reserved for the more experienced as the waves are still very big.
- Further down the beach is ‘The Spot’, where there is more sand and much smaller rolling waves, perfect for kids and beginner surfers. There is a place for all different levels of surfing experience.
