Sculptures by the Sea

Episode 6
15/03/14
Haley Thopmson

The tenth year of sculpture by the sea is sure to draw a crowd, and for good reason. This annual free event has found a firm place in WA’s calendar bringing culture, life and celebration to one of Perth’s favourite beaches.

Plenty to See by the Sea.

  • Look for the A-frame signage on-site to find the “picnic pick-up and drop-off zone” on Marine Parade; cars should only remain for 3-4 minutes, with Council fines applying thereafter. This zone will only be open during the exhibition from Monday- Saturday 5pm-7:30pm.
  • On weekends free artist talks will be held from 9:00am. Each talk will run approximately 20min with about four sessions a day. Both Local, interstate and international artists will be discussing their sculpture and explaining the process of creating. Just look for the beanbags installed next to artist’s work.
  • Some of the artwork to look out for this year includes the prize winning 'like a flower swaying in the wind' by Hiroyuki Kita of Japan. And sculpture scholarship winners Kerrie Argent for 'overconsumption' and Elaine Clocherty for 'overnight'.
  • Don’t forget while you’re there you can vote for the people’s choice award. Last year’s winner was Cave Urban, mengengang (memory).
  • Over the years the Town of Cottesloe has purchased and been gifted eleven sculptures now established permanently for public display. You can take a self-guided tour by simply downloading the map.
