Craig McLaughlin

Episode 3
22/02/14
Trevor Cochrane

The Rocky Horror Show is celebrating its 40th anniversary so it’s about time we meet the Multi-talented Aussie legend behind the face of the Transsexual Transylvanian, Meeting Mr Craig McLaughlin.

More to a man then a street.

  • Craig considers himself the only “show off in the family”. He has even said that in his earliest schooling when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up he wanted to be “in true grit with John Wayne”.
  • Before starring as Henry Ramsay on Neighbours Craig had very little acting experience. His success as the beloved bad boy scored him a role on Home and Away, along with talent such as Guy Pearce he is one of only a handful of actors ever to appear on both soaps
  • Craig’s career as an everyman has seen him win the converted Gold Logie, created chart topping hits such as Amanda (AUS#23 / UK#19, 1990),On My Own (AUS#23, 1991) and the now classic remake of the Bo Diddley song Mona (AUS#3 / UK#2, 1990). His stage production of Greece held the UK West ends all time box office record for over 20 years. He has met the Queen and played alongside Paul Stanley from Kiss.
  • It was a poorly charged babysitting cousin that first snuck a then too young Craig into Rocky to see a Reg Livermore’s Frank
  • Craig is quoted as saying “I remember Richard O’Brien saying years ago that once Frank is inside you, you never get him out.”
  • McLachlan admits after discovering Rocky Horror through his older brother’s record collection at 9 years old he couldn’t make out if the pictures of the cast were male or female.
