Story: Village Green Reimagined
Episode: 3
Presenter: Chrissy Morrissy
Air Date: 16 February 2025
Chrissy explores Village Green’s High Street in Karawara, uncovering its transformation into a vibrant hub of connection and pride.
- Waterford Plaza, once a favourite of Curtin University students, is transforming to meet the evolving needs of the growing Karawara community. The Village Green redevelopment is turning the High Street precinct into a vibrant, community-focused space with cafes, restaurants, and outdoor dining options.
- The redevelopment marks the first stage of the project, with more to come. Originally called Village Green when the Atzemis family bought it in 1991, the latest revamp is the most community-minded and colourful yet, encouraging visitors to socialise, shop, dine, and connect.
- The centre features murals, sculptures, lights, and poetry celebrating nature and community, creating a "Garden of Connections." Visitors are encouraged to explore the artwork by talented local artists.
- Exciting dining spots include Grill’d, Druk Bhutanese, Sushi Hub, Mamak Goreng, and Mecca Gourmet, with Six Streets by Six Senses opening in early February. Communal dining spaces promote togetherness and encourage people to gather.
- The development includes more shade, alfresco dining, bike racks, charging stations, and a variety of seating. The use of timber and tumbled brick gives the area an authentic, welcoming feel.
- The newly redeveloped High Street is hosting a range of events, from family-friendly activities to cultural celebrations, designed to bring people together and foster a strong sense of community.
