Chrissy travels an hour and a half to Northam, to check out one of WA’s top winter racecourses.

  • Northam is known for the iconic Avon Descent, providing breathtaking views during early morning glides, showcasing unique artworks, architectural tours, award-winning cuisine, and a rich history spanning 40,000 years.
  • Northam Racecourse is located 100km east of Perth, being an hour and a half scenic drive down Great Eastern Highway; when driving to the racecourse, a stop at Bakers Hill bakery is a must, as it is well known to locals as one of the best pie shops in the region.
  • Delving into the racing history, the Northam Race Club, established in 1863, is spotlighted as a premier provincial racecourse with 25 annual meets and notable events that include the WA Day Cup and the listed race run Iron Jack Northam Cup.
  • The Club boasts a comfortable racecourse with ample lawned areas for racegoers to enjoy a picnic, a welcoming café where racegoers tastebuds are tempted, and a well-appointed members enclosure and grandstand with sweeping views of the neighbouring farmland.
  • The racecourse stands out as one of Western Australia's top winter tracks and is notably the sole racecourse beyond the metropolitan area to organise a group race showcasing the Northam Stakes, a thrilling 1100m sprint held each May.
