Dampier Archipelago

Episode: 3
Broadcast: 19th October
Presenter: Caty Price

Spending time in the North West makes you realize how old WA is… The landscape is ancient and while the traditional owners have been here for thousands of years, European settlement has been relatively recent with some of the earliest contact happening right here off the coast of Dampier.

  • A stone’s throw from the foreshore is Sam’s Island, a hidden oasis and long time home to Serbian Sam Ostojich who fell in love with the spot and claimed it for his castle after moving to the Pilbara in the 60s.

  • There’s a string of 42 pristine islands to choose and explore, not only are they completely unspoiled but they’re all but deserted so you could just about have one to yourself for the entire day.
