Trevor ventures to Kununurra to witness the transformation of regional infrastructure. The East Kimberley Regional Airport and Road Train Assembly Area are two projects which the WA Building for Tomorrow program have implemented, aiming to connect the remote destination to the rest of the state.

• Located deep in the northeast of the Kimberley, Kununurra is just about as far as you can get from Perth in this state. These essential developments provide greater connectivity to the isolated town and region.
• The improvements to the East Kimberley Regional Airport are part of the Regional Airport Pavement Upgrades program, a State Government infrastructure initiative aiming to connect our state by developing these vital points.
• The plans are to extend the runway to remove the restrictions on plane weight and passenger capacity on airports taking off out of Kununurra. The Department of Transport, State Government, and local East Kimberly Shire came together to support this development.
• This dramatically improves the connectivity between Kununurra and the state offering a greater expansion of economic and tourism opportunities, allowing more air routes and cheaper fares.
• The Department of Transport has also been working in Kununurra on the Road Train Assembly Area. The Regional Road Safety Program and Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program aims to improve the safety and facilities for large overland container transport, hoping to support the essential logistics
• The new Road Train Assembly Area in Kununurra is located directly opposite a service station and close to the town centre, providing convenient access to services for road users. The truck bay is designed to support freight connections in regional towns, specifically for heavy haulage truck assembly, with capacity for up to 15 triple road trains.
