Chrissy visits Murujuga National Park on the day it becomes a UNESCO World Heritage site, where ancient rock art, a rising moon, and Indigenous chef Zach Green come together for a powerful cultural feast under the stars.
- Murujuga National Park on the Pilbara coast is home to over 1 million ancient rock engravings, making it the largest outdoor rock art gallery in the world.
- On the 12th of July 2025, Murujuga was officially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognising its global cultural significance and deep connection to Aboriginal heritage.
- The park is part of Ngarluma Country, and traditional owners like Clinton Walker continue to share its stories through Welcome to Country ceremonies and cultural interpretation.
- Nearby Hearson’s Cove offers one of WA’s best views of the Staircase to the Moon, a natural lunar illusion that occurs 39 times a year between March and October.
- Zach Green, known as the Storyteller Chef, blends native ingredients with powerful narratives, creating immersive dining experiences that celebrate Aboriginal culture and Country.
- The long-table dinner at Hearson’s Cove features dishes like crocodile skewers, wild mushroom arancini, fresh barramundi, and bush tucker canapés, all timed to coincide with the moonrise.
- The event marks the launch of an annual culinary series in Karratha, designed to highlight the region’s art, nature, and Indigenous culture through food.
- Whether you come for the rock art, the moonrise, or the flavours, Murujuga and Hearson’s Cove deliver a deeply moving experience that blends ancient history with modern storytelling.
