Episode: 8
Broadcast: 23rd November
Presenter: Tod Johnston

Tod visits the WA Museum to learn about a international discovery in Paleontology.

  • In 2002, right here in WA, WA museum paleontologist, John Wong, had lead an expedition through a cave system, finding the first complete Thylacoleo skeleton, the discovery of this animal had hit headlines throughout the world.
  • The Thylacoleo is believed to be a nightmarish predator of ancient Australia, keen night vision, making it a stealthy predator, it was able to rock back on its tail like a Kangaroo, and an opposable thumb it would use to climb and kill its prey with.
  • The Tylacoleo is believed to be the size of a Panther or Leopard however, it was a lot more heavier, weighing nearly that of a bear, what was believed to be a 40,000 year old fossil, turned out to be around 500,000 – 800,000 years old.
