Fremantle Festival Town

Episode: 6
Broadcast: 9th November
Presenter: Anna Gare

Without a doubt, Fremantle is WA’s home of festivals. There’s nothing like seeing these streets closed off, people out enjoying the sunshine and our port city bouncing to the sights and sounds of celebration.

  • The Fremantle Festival, which usually starts on late October to early November runs for two weeks and covers a lot of territory.

  • It’s more like a collection of around a hundred events and mini festivals under the one banner.

  • One is the Blessing of the Fleet, which has become a cultural touchstone in Freo. A Catholic tradition brought here by Italian migrant fishermen in the 1940’s, it’s an appeal for a safe and bountiful fishing season.

  • Music is a big part of the Fremantle Festival and one of the events, the Norfolk Lanes Youth Festival is a great opportunity for emerging bands and singers to perform and connect with an audience.
