Wedge Island

Episode: 6
Broadcast: 9th November
Presenter: Lee Steele

Far out in Western Australia lies a beach that is truly unique. It has all the typical beachside attractions – great surf, fishing, kite-surfing, swimming, sand boarding. But what makes it really different are the iconic beach shacks.

  • It’s a bit like stepping back in time. No power, no shops, not running water but plenty of friendly people who’d rather holiday here than anywhere else in the world.

  • There are hundreds of shacks that line the island and they’re made from recycled materials – like driftwood, old bits of tin and corrugated iron.

  • Wedge is great for day trips or weekend getaways. There are tracks everywhere for four wheel driving, it’s also popular for fishing and surfing.
